Americans put their families, themselves and their identity at risk daily due to not
properly screening domestic services that they hire.  Illegal aliens and illegal
companies pose a serious threat when it comes to your possessions, health, identity
and finances. Unfortunately due to our busy schedules and our trusting natures, we
do not always properly screen individuals or companies when hiring their services to
perform certain work in our homes.  Services such as childcare, senior care, home
health care, house cleaning/maid services, handyman services, lawn and yard care,
and other services that are considered by the government to be domestic help
related services. Please take a few minutes and research the domestic help laws that
can be found on the
http://www.firstgov.gov/ , also spend some time surfing and
researching this issue on your own, you will be horrified as to the consequences if
you have not taken the proper precautions when hiring people to perform these
services for you and your family.

We have listed some of the items you should look for when hiring individuals or
companies to perform domestic services for you and your family;
  • Are you dealing with a legal company?
  • Is the company insured and bonded?
  • Is the company employing legal aliens?
  • Does the company perform background checks for their employees?
  • Does the company have references?

If the company is not a legal entity you will have many problems such as; you may be
required to pay state & federal taxes plus unemployment on top of wages, you may
be required to pay penalties for the aforementioned, you will also be required to
submit monthly/quarterly/annual tax forms; if you have not performed a background
check you may be employing an illegal alien, a sex offender, a felon or worse; if
someone were to get hurt while working at your home you will be responsible for any
and all accidents that may occur, this could include but not be limited to medical bills,
lost wages, a civil suit, etc..., if the person were to steal your identity, hurt you or a
member of your family on your property, break or steal any of your possessions,
destroy your home; the recovery or restitution for these may not be possible due to
their financial situation or alien status, remember they more than likely have no
insurance or bonding if they are not legal.  There are so many other issues you
need to know, you wouldn't buy a car without researching why would you allow
someone into your home around your family and possessions without doing the
proper research?  The possibility of dangerous medical conditions are one of many
problems you could encounter, remember if someone has entered this country
illegally that means they have not had the proper inoculations thereby exposing you
and your family to disease, if someone is willing to break the law in order to gain
access to this country it obviously doesn't speak well of the character of the person,
therefore you do not know what other laws they are willing to violate in order to
remain in this country, maybe they will steal your identity (as it is readily available
throughout your home), your possessions or worse. Because they have come to the
US illegally you are unable to check their background, you in fact may be allowing a
sex offender, a larcenist, a drug dealer or yes maybe even a murderer into your
home.  As for someone that is a legal resident of the US, you need to ask yourself
why are they running an illegal company, what are they hiding or what are they
running from.  Quite simply do the proper research and you can be worry free.
Remember there are many legal companies to choose from, with great reputations
and employees that put back into the economy.  Just follow these simple steps,
choose at least (3) companies from either the internet, yellow pages or as referred
by a friend/relative/etc., "do not assume that if you find a company in the yellow
pages, if you find a business card posted in the store or if you see a company
posted on Craig's list or some other website that in fact they are a legal company, in
fact probably 1/2 of them are not", check with the secretary of states office to confirm
that you are dealing with a legal company, after you have confirmed that you are
dealing with a legal company  take the time to meet with a representative of these
companies and ask them questions about their company, get at least (3) references
and call the references, have your vendor provide to you a certificate of insurance
with liability insurance coverage, workers compensation insurance and a certificate
from a bonding company.  Please check the authenticity of all documents, check the
coverage value, check the dates in order to make sure that the coverage has not
lapsed, ask the company if you need to sign a contract and read it carefully if one is
provided.

Now please understand this is not all you need to know, surf the web and check
various sites for information relative to this issue, check the US government site,
check you local state government site, check the IRS for the domestic help law, we
hope you find this information helpful.
